Welcome back everyone to another Hushpuppy blog! In today's blog I will be running you through how we created the legendary “Wes the Alien” makeup look. This look is very basic but very special to me as it was the first makeup look I ever created for the music video - Space, man.
I quick run down about Makeuppy! Makeuppy is a YouTube segement where I recreate makeup looks from previous productions. Mostly looks that I have created! I will then be writing it up, in blog form, and letting you guys know how I created it, where I got it from and why I used certain products! The YouTube video will be attached at the end of this blog.
So let's begin…..
Firstly like most makeup looks I started with a primer. Now I didn't use a really expensive primer as the cheaper ones have the same effect! I used the Nivea for Men's post shave balm. Yeah I know what you’re thinking this isn't a legit primer but the glistening in this creates a sticking effect perfect for the base of any foundation. I'm sure you’ve heard loads of YouTubers say the same thing! I applied this by gently rubbing it into all areas of the face.
Now to set the base for the face paint and to make sure it is really going to highlight, I used Rimmel London’s Match foundation in the shade Ivory. Applied with the Real Techniques Expert face brush and a makeup sponge. This shade was a little too dark on my model and all other foundations were too light! So I used the LA Girl Pro Coverage White, just to lighten the foundation look up. It also created an extra layer for my base. All applied with a sponge.
For the face paint we decided to create a glowing blue alien as we were using green screens and didn't want Wes’ face to interfere with the set! We chose the Snazaroo Metallic Blue as it is easy to use for beginners and has a lovely shimmer. The first two layers were applied by a basic foundation brush and then quickly hair dried and the last layer applied with a sponge paint brush.
In my mind our alien had to have scales! It just added so much detail to the look rather than just having a blue face! Like something out of Eiffel 65’s music video for Blue! So after finding a small piece of netted material from Ebay we applied a white eye shadow colour form the Revolution 32 Shade Flawless 2 palette. The brush I used to put this shade on was the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Eye shadow brush and then I applied a light brown shade with the Naked 3 88N01f brush. This added a bit more depth however we needed it to pop on the camera so I added the final shade from the palette, a dark grey, with the Morphe M135 Eye shadow brush.
And that is the end of how I created the “Wes the Alien” makeup look. In this episode I only recreated the face look however the real Wes the Alien has the look all over his arms too! I have also included a list of all the products used, the price and where I bought them from. Some of these products I already owned so they may be discontinued!
