Hello and welcome back to another Makeuppy blog! I hope you enjoyed episode one! Today's Makeuppy is going to be a little bit darker than the first and may make you fear your cuddly toys! Back in 2017 we created a music video for a university assignment to the song “Breezeblock by Alt J”. The narrative followed a young girl running through the forest trying to escape her evil teddies! Until “adulthood” catches up with her and she becomes the devil! I know, it's creepy! So in today’s blog I will be walking you through how I created the teddy scratches and bruising look!
So let’s begin….
Just like episode 1, I used the Nivea for Men's post shave balm as a primer and gently rubbed this into all areas of the face. For foundations I used the Maybelline New York Super Stay 24 Coverage in True Ivory! This was dabbed on with a Real Techniques sponge. As this was my foundation I use all the time the skin tone matched perfectly! However the actress who played the girl had a slightly darker skin so therefore she used her own foundation!
The actress is also very fortunate to have lovely dark eyebrows so there was no need to put any product on them! Unlike someone who has blonde eyebrows. So therefore I use the Morphe Almond eyebrow cream. This actually was a part of the Arch Obsessions set which I would say is definitely worth getting as you get a lot of different products for £20. To apply my eyebrows I used the Morphe M158 brush, which is also in the Arch Obsessions kit. This is quite a natural makeup look so there was no need for really defined eyebrows, the more natural the better!
To begin the bruising, I used a medium pink eyeshadow shade from the Morphe 35b palette and began gently circling a base on the top left of my forehead. This is to set the base of the bruising. Depending on how old you want your bruise to be, depends on what colours to use. This bruise needed to be a fresh one as the girl had not been in the forest long! With this in mind I used the Snazaroo “Green Grass” face paint to begin dabbing with a damp sponge, getting a layered effect.
Let the layering begin! Next I used the Nooner eyeshadow shade from the Naked 3 palette and gently blended that into the face paint. I wanted to try out a blue shade as I have heard a lot of other makeup artists say a blue shade makes the bruise look fresher. So I used a medium blue from the Morphe 35b palette. Continuing the layering effect, I layered this with a medium grey eyeshadow colour from the Morphe 35k palette and then began to blend this out with eyeshadow colour “Tease” from Naked 2 palette. Two bruises are more effective than one! So I repeated this step on my cheek too!
Right enough of the bruising, let’s move onto cuts! As these “animals” were small we needed the cuts to show this. I began by getting a thin makeup brush and applying the Trust leaf liquid latex to my cheek. Layering the latex until it is thick enough to hold the tissue. Peel off a small piece of tissue and stick it to the latex until it holds. With the excess tissue peel that off. Keep doing this until you get the shape of the cut you want. This is much easier while wet!
Once the tissue has dried, I used the Snazaroo “Red” face paint to set the base colour of my cut. Now for the tricky bit! I found this next step the most difficult because the tissue kept tearing. To make this cut look fresh and gory, I used the Ben NYE scab blood. Which in my opinion is the best fake blood money can buy! Layer this up with a thin eye shadow brush and be careful of tearing. If you are like me and the tissue does tear you can gently stick it back together with the blood. This step was then repeated on the top of the previous bruise on my forehead.
In my mind the character wouldn't have slept for a while, being chased by teddies really takes it out of you! So I added a pink and purple eyeshadow shade from the Morphe 35B palette to define tiredness around her eyes. Finishing this gory look with some fake blood on the nose, lip with the Ben NYE Dark blood.
To finish this entire look up I used the Max Factor Lash Revival Primer and then the Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara. Not too think as this is a natural look.
And there you have it Makeuppy episode 2! If you were ever attacked by your teddies this is what you would look like! I have also included a list of all the products used, the price and where I bought them from. Some of these products I already owned so they may be discontinued!
